About The Lean-to
The Lean-to is a simple, rustic cabin on the working farm that can accommodate an individual or couple and is offered as part of our work-trade program.
For people who have been looking at rural land in Northern California, imagining leaving city life behind, or wondering whether off-grid living is really for them, staying on the farm offers a chance to move beyond the idea and experience some of the day-to-day reality firsthand.
Residents contribute 15 hours of work each week and learn by doing. Farm work changes with the season and may include permaculture gardening, harvesting, food preservation, animal care, and general property maintenance. The experience offers practical exposure to the work, systems, and problem-solving involved in building a more self-sufficient rural life.

- $400/month contribution to shared living expenses

- Monday–Friday, 9am–12pm
Work trade may include
- Permaculture gardening and maintenance
- Weeding, pruning, and harvesting
- Food preservation, canning, and drying
- Mowing and general farm maintenance
- Animal care
- Occasional cow milking if interested
